Unbound, my new project, is now on Kickstarter. Chris Taylor and I have been writing and designing this game for the last sixteen months, give or take, and we’re really excited about it – and we want your support.
What is Unbound? It’s the game that I’ve been involved in that I’m most proud of. You can read more about it in my breathlessly enthused pitch on Kickstarter, or if you’re not into manic shouting, you can read the much more professional pitch on our website. But if you want the short version, here you go:
UNBOUND is a universal tabletop RPG with a focus on group-led play, communal world and adventure creation, and slick, streamlined combat. With it, you and your group can sit down with no prep whatsoever, and in the space of under an hour, create a world, a series of characters, and an exciting plot.
We’ve done some interesting stuff with it, too: we use cards, rather than dice, as a resolution mechanic, and the great thing about cards is that you can write on them. So you can pen your character’s history, scars, legends and experiences onto your deck, and watch it grow as you play through the adventure.
I’ve also written a fantastic GM advice chapter, a companion piece to my 11 Ways To Be A Better Roleplayer one, and I’m pretty chuffed with it. In it, I break down how absurdly easy it is to be a gamesmaster if you can learn to give control to your players and play in the moment rather than relying on reams and reams of preparation.
We need money to get this project out into people’s hands. At present, we’re about two days in and 40% funded. If you’d like to help us out, and get some killer roleplaying content while you do it, take a look at our Kickstarter and back us.
